Serge de Gheldere
Serge de Gheldere: A Pioneer of Climate Justice in Belgium
Early in his career, Serge was trained by Al Gore, gaining insight when climate change was just emerging as a global concern.
Serge made a lasting impact on Belgium’s climate movement by initiating and leading Klimaatzaak, the groundbreaking legal case that successfully held Belgian governments accountable for their climate inaction. What began with 11 founders grew into a movement signed by over 68,000 citizens, making it Belgium’s largest climate lawsuit and a landmark victory for climate justice.
Building on this foundation, he founded Futureproofed, the sustainability division of Sweco, helping businesses transition to greener practices.
Serge’s dedication continues to inspire action and accountability across Belgium and beyond.
Bruce Douglas
Bruce Douglas: Ambassador for the Energy Transition
“Tripling renewables isn’t a slogan—it’s a survival plan. We need action, not just ambition.”
Bruce Douglas is a long-time champion of the global energy transition, currently leading the Global Renewables Alliance as its CEO. With more than 25 years of experience in clean energy, Bruce has built coalitions that span continents, industries, and institutions—all driven by a single goal: scaling up renewables fast enough to keep 1.5 °C within reach.
In 2024, he launched the ‘Time 4 Action’ campaign, calling for a massive acceleration in renewable deployment: tripling global capacity to 11,000 GW by 2030, backed by $10 trillion in investment. The initiative lays out a clear nine-point plan, from faster permitting to stronger grids, and unites global industry voices behind it.
Under Bruce’s leadership, the Alliance helped secure historic momentum at COP28, where more than 130 countries pledged to triple renewable energy and double energy efficiency by 2030. He continues to advocate for smarter energy systems, flexible grids, and hybrid solutions that integrate wind, solar, and storage.
Named a TIME100 Climate Leader in 2024, Bruce believes climate leadership isn’t about titles—it’s about delivering change at speed and scale.
Lizet Ramirez
When climate change meets your hobby
Originally from Mexico, Liz arrived in Brussels with a clear mission: more wind energy and more climate action!
Today, she works at WindEurope, helping to ensure that governments, industry and society have the right facts to make the energy transition happen.
Outside the office, Liz is an endurance-sports enthusiast, especially triathlon: so perseverance, long-term plans and very early mornings are familiar territory.
She discovered Cycling4Climate from the start and saw the perfect match between two passions: climate action and cycling. One email to the organisers, one recruited friend, and the foundations of the first Climate Classic Belgium were born in 2025.
From meeting cycling legends to Energy Ministers, Liz remains convinced that wind (and all of us) are part of the solution.
She is a great example on how one’s career can be used as a force for good.
Tanguy De Lestré
Tanguy De Lestré: A Pioneer and Leader in Cycling Infrastructure
Many cyclists are familiar with the bikenodes (“knooppunt” or “points-noeuds”) system, marked by white signs with green numbers, which facilitates bike navigation.
Although this system was created 30 years ago in Limburg, Belgium, and has since expanded widely across the country, it somehow didn’t exist in Brussels.
In response to this gap, Tanguy De Lestré led in 2020 a group of nearly 100 citizens to develop a numbering system for the entire Brussels region.
As a result, 97% of their proposed system has been adopted in Brussels. Tanguy is a humble local hero who has made our travel easier.

Delphine Thirifays
Delphine Thirifays : A female world champion, in Belgium ? Yes !
Delphine is an inspiring athlete with an impressive sports career. She holds not two but three world champion titles in amateur long-distance duathlon.
Her passion for cycling is evident as she became the first woman to conquer the challenging Belgian hill, “La Redoute,” 40 times in a row. Additionally, she has tackled the “Bueren” hill multiple times and completed a Tour d’Italie in the Ardennes.
Moreover, Delphine was honored with the title of “Liégeoise de l’année.”
